I was ordained by the International Institute for Secular-Humanistic Judaism (IISHJ) through its Israel branch TMURA, under the auspices of Rabbi Sivan Malkin Maas. My approach to Judaism is cultural, I believe that the Jewish people express themselves in a variety of ways, both religious and secular. My example for shaping Jewish experience to suit the needs and priorities of the modern era comes from the Israeli Hiloni Jewish cannon, from its writers, poets, musicians, dancers, artists, dramatists and ceremonial crafters. My priority is to create a Jewish path for myself and others that is respectful of Humanist values, of democracy and freedom of personal expression and practice. I strive to imbue Jewish life with a sense of meaning and purpose, one that prioritizes justice, equality and the spirit of giving. In everything I do, I look for creative ways in which to celebrate the story of our people, our particular worldview and our unique way of marking time and commemorating the cycles of life.
In my work, I help individuals, couples, families and communities create rituals and events that best suit their needs. I welcome a variety of views and cultural practices and am always happy to work with those who were born into or have affiliated/connected themselves with the Jewish community. In crafting life-cycle events, I am careful to understand the stories of those celebrating or commemorating, of what is important to them and those who will share in the experience. Naturally, I am open to working with all humans, with all ethnic, cultural or religious roots and the entire spectrum of gender and/or sexual/romantic orientations, ages and physical, cognitive and psychological dis/abilities.
I have experience with a variety of life cycle and ritual events such as:
- Birth and baby namings
- Maturation, Birthdays, Bar/Bat/B Mitzvah
- Coupling, betrothal, weddings, commitment ceremonies, anniversaries
- Un-coupling, separation, divorce
- Aging and end of life discussions/decisions
- Funeral and memorial events
- Creating a Jewish Home
- Jewish holidays
-Shabbat
-Seasonal and special events
